When I first saw this book, it brought a smile to my face. Not only is it written by the author of the wonderful ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ but it is very much a traditional tale, beautifully captured in Andrew Gordon’s illustrations.

This charming railway story will appeal to boys and girls and of course grandparents as little Tom and Maisie step out for a train adventure to Blueberry Hill and really gets you involved in the story with rhyming throughout.  The train is ready to go so wave your flag and blow your whistle! A fantastic book to read before bedtime, ready for little ones to dream about railway adventures…

And here it is…24 days, 24 gorgeous book I want to share with you. I did this last year and it was such fun and had a fantastic response, I just had to do it again.

Starting off this festive fare is ‘The Giant Book of Giants’ by Saviour Pirotta and Mark Robertson. It’s a fantastic, hardback pop-up book featuring a collection of classic tales all about giants. But that’s not the best bit, turn to the back of the book and there is a lifesize pullout, 3D pop-up poster of a giant!

I love this so much that I’ve put the giant up on my wall at work and he causes great excitement. The attention to detail is fantastic and all round the giant, there are little pieces of information so you can learn everything and anything about these giant creatures.

It really is a fantastic, and original book for anyone who ever liked Gulliver’s Travels and for those who dream of being a big fat, slobbering, gentle giant.

Perfectly Pretty Royal Wedding Activity Book

This activity book, published by Scholastic is a great all-rounder and lets the kids be involved in all aspects of the wedding from outfits to arranging the beautiful flowers. But my favourite bit has to be decorating the all important cake- shame we don’t get to eat it. I also like the fact that real-life photographs are use as well as illustrations – it brings it all to life and helps to visualise the event.
