‘The Church Mice at Christmas’ by Graham Oakley is considered a modern classic these days and I hear many adults talking fondly of their childhood experiences of the church mouse.
Published as a beautiful hardback edition of a classic tale, this would make a lovely gift. The illustrations are classic and remind me of Shirley Hughes’ work with the scratchy sketches I just adore. Each page is full of illustrations laid out like a comic book. In fact, this book is actually rather long and will take a few bedtime reading sessions to work through.
I just love the charm of the mices Arthur and Humphrey and they help bring the Christmas spirit to the whole town, with a little help from Father Christmas of course.
