The Scary Sounds of Halloween
It’s got to be the worst witch. I loved this as a kid!
My fave Halloween read is probably Meg and Mog especially for the little ones as it’s not too scary but still involves witches and magic!
older children definately goose bumps but young children anything with a witch such as winnie or meg and mog
Peek-a-Boo : Lift the flap book, a really cute alternative for younger kids
Our fav Halloween reads is Room on the broom by Julia Donaldson – my little girl loves Winnie the witch so fingers crossed !!!

Dora’s Halloween Adventure
My kids love Meg and Mog!
The Worst Witch
My daughters favourite halloween read is ‘The night before Halloween’. Brilliant!
Too many to choose from Meg and Mog, Gigantic turnip, and we love Winnie the Witch at Pre-school.

We love Winnie’s Giant Pumpkin all year round but it is a good non-scary choice for Halloween!
I have a book called how we caught the wicked witch which contains the names of myself, my sister and our two friends. I love reading this on halloween.
Heckedy Peg by Audrey Wood, Don Wood
Deliciously scary… A witch that eats children! children who disobey their mother …
and mum , the hero who rescues the children!
The illustrations are superb. I have read it to so many children in my capacity as a school teacher and as a mum! You should see their eyes widen the first time they hear the story.. or listen to the slightly older ones solve the puzzle amongst themselves!
goose bumps for sure
it has to be meg and mog
The worst witch – no question!!
For me its the skelatens down the dark dark stair!
My favorite Halloween read is Witches, Wraiths, and Warlocks: Supernatural Tales of the American Renaissance by Ronald Curran
My little girl loves meg and mog books but would love to try a winnie the witch book.
hmmm, we read By the Light of the Halloween Moon the other day.
My eldest (now 4) started school in September and is picking up the art of reading very quickly. His interest and enthusiasm in books is a joy and I think we will wipe the library out very soon. This would be fantastic to add to his collection – even if he cannot read all of it yet, he loves listening to a good story and follows the words with his finger – it would be coming to a very good home.
we like The Night Before Halloween.
Everybody in our house loves all the Meg and Mog books. great reading for Halloween especially
My Girls Love A Dark Dark Tale, it builds the suspense beautifully without being too scary for under 5s
“Room On The Broom” is a witchy favourite!

My daughter and I love “Delicious!” A pumpkin Soup Story, by Helen Cooper, it is wonderfully illustrated, and we just love its rhyming quality. My daughter and I love to read it out aloud together.
After we have carved out our Pumpkins, there is a recipie inside the books cover, to make the perfect pumpkin soup, and it is “Delicious”
Heather if you look back at some previous posts, I reviewed Pumpkin Soup for my Halloween month. Such a good read.
My favourite was the Worst Witch
I used to love reading Meg and Mog when I was younger. At the moment my children love it when I make up scary stories about vampires and zombies that eat them, they scream really loudly but love it!!
The Worst Witch
My children and I both love Trixie the Witch’s Cat – gorgeous illustrations and a really lovely story. It’s a bedtime favourite!
